Most compatibles say 'not recognised' when they are empty. After one Black ink cartridge was expended, I bought new genuine ink cartridge from Epson. However, Epson printers do not accurately measure the remaining ink and use an estimate. I do not print that much that it should be emptied within a month. HOWEVER, i went to the epson page and went thru the troubleshooting steps. I am using Epsom cartridges and always do, never use compatibles . Find out and fix the necessary cartridge by: Remove all of the new cartridges you had installed and re-install the old (empty) cartridges that worked Restart the printer, this should remove Epson are always trying to combat the use of compatible cartridges so they can corner the market so if you are prompted to update you printers firmware DONT !
Note: Some printer model drivers may not offer the option to disable driver updates during the set up process. It gave me error message, "The installed ink cartridge is incompatible with this printer", and it asked me to replace it. If multiple cartridges have been rejected I would recommend installing them individually and ensuring the cartridge is being recognised by the printer before repeating the process for the next cartridge. I'm going to try and ignore the prompts to upgrade to the latest driver, which for me at the moment is driver version 9.00. I have tried to look for the reset button near the circuit board but nowhere to be found 🙁 I'm using Epson T28xx cartridges for the Espon Stylus SX435W.
